Surprise! I won a real estate auction
This is what it looks like when you buy a house while recording a podcast.
Yesterday, in mid-session with the fantastic Sherrie Shaw of Universal Title in Fredericksburg (coming soon), I found out that I won a house I was bidding on at auction. Above is a screen-grabbed progression of how that played out in real time.
Let me backup a moment.
For several months, I have been hunting for a piece of property to buy and flip. Aside from the MLS I have access to as an agent, I was looking at auctions. Just like the online market, auction inventory is slim. But attending these open houses and bids seemed like a great way to learn the process.
My intention for this property was to dip my toe into the water. Apparently, I don’t know what that means.
Since I was recording an episode during the last 4 minutes of the auction (these are the pivotal moments in the transaction), I put in a minimum and maximum bid earlier in the day. Then forgot about it.
Ten minutes into the chat with Sherrie, I received an email that totally shook me off my game. Thankfully my reactions were captured in the Squadcast platform we use to record our episodes. My face speaks volumes. And it screams OMG!
Next up: An episodes around how online auctions work with real estate and an OWH mini series called “How I flipped this house.”
Oh, and watch out Richmond. One of those coveted ranchers will be hitting the market in June.
